Barry Whale Does A BIG Splash

I wanted to paint the first Barry Whale, but was scared of ruining it, so I knocked out a second 5 min test Illustration last night.

When I proudly showed Daughter #1 my efforts this morning, she loved the test image (because Barry Whale was doing a big splash) and barely noticed the one I took ages doing. Typical.

So I had a bash painting it with Watercolours and white acrylic highlights. Nice to be flexing the artistic muscles again, I’m enjoying it. Got more plans in the pipeline.

Life Drawing 2014 Compendium

2014 was the year of paint, colour and canvas. Hard work, but bloody good fun. I’m mostly pleased with just about everything from this year. Which is high praise indeed from me.

The tentative plan for next year is to play. I want to stick to paint (or colour at least) but try out lots of different surfaces, sizes and techniques to see what happens. I fancy some big chinese Sumi-e ink work which will be a real challenge, and its not colour, but I should be able to work with tone. Maybe dabble in watercolours, but most of all I want to try acrylics on a bunch of different media – wood, home stretched canvas, metal even… who knows. Will be fun finding out.

Sending yourself mad with colour theory

Not sure I’m going to be able to finish this off. My brain hurts.

Colour-Theory

I’ve always found colour theory tough (probably why I avoided colour for so long…) so I thought I’d have a play and mix Process CMYK acrylic colour palettes and see what happens.

Life drawing starts again next week so I’ve been preparing a load of coloured canvasses recently. This colour study has given me some ideas on how to use colours. Will post a pic of the canvasses soon, interesting stuff to come.
