Classic Life Drawing 15_12_10

Lots of images to look at today! I’ve decided that I’m just going to post up everything from my sketchbooks as I scan them – good, bad and ugly. My style has mellowed recently so its great fun going back through the years to the more ‘out-there’ drawings I used to produce. I went through a phase (a few years long) of really pushing the limits of Life drawing, both taste-wise (…gulp!) and stylistically. Its good, I now feel like I’m starting to find a nice equlibrium with my drawings – a bit crazy, but not so entirely mentalist! Anyway, have a gander…

Good session tonight. All 5 minute poses, so there’s quite a volume of images. Had fun mashing together different poses to make new odd looking images…

That was the last session for this term, but I’ll be scanning and uploading classic life drawing every Thursday from sketchbooks past! Its going to be ‘fun’ (read: embarrassing) posting up some of the drawings from a few years ago when I was going through… lets call it a ‘phase’ of drawing very silly things. I’m sure you’ll get what I mean when I post them up. Gulp. As ever, to view the drawings in full screen, click a thumbnail and navigate left/right using the arrows at top and bottom of the screen. Enjoy!

Well, that was a fun session. Mostly straight drawings again… apart from one – sorry Miss model! Late night tonight tho, popped to #bristweetdrinks hosted by @G2Bristol and caught up with the local tweeps after Life Drawing this evening. Always a pleasure to have a cheeky pint and a chinwag with the Bristol twitterati.  So, aided by a nice downtempo mix CD thrust fortuitously into my hand by Mr Hatrick of the Sunday Slouch Sessions at the Golden Guinea just before I left the Kings Arms pub tweet-up, here’s the result of tonights’ session

A friend of mine Dave V once described me as ‘The M C Escher of Life Drawing’ – I kinda like that! Tonight I’m posting a selection of life drawings from Sketchbook_Black_11 to make up for the lack of life class this evening. You can see how I got that title below…

Life-Mash!

I create these images by shmushing together 2,3 or 4 short poses into one picture. Its not entirely random, though it may seem like that. I draw sections of the model that most interest me in a particular pose until time runs out, then map a section or line that roughly fits an area of negative space or nice curve, line or shape in the new pose and carry on regardless. It sometimes gives a kind of fractured, Dave-style Marcel DuchampNude descending a Staircase‘ type feel which I really like. Anyways, read on for a nice selection of artwork past. I’m very fond of these drawings, I hope you enjoy them too – click ‘continue reading’ to view the selection -> Continue reading Classic Life Drawing 21_10_10

Life Drawing 23_09_10

2 Head worms and a full body worm! That’s a good haul for a Thursday evening. What better way to wind down after a long hard day at the digital coalface than drawing poor unsuspecting life models mashed up in a Dave’s eye view.

A small psychic head worm

Lots of 5 minute poses this session so the volume is quite large this week. I’m going to keep posting up every single drawing, good bad or/and ugly for the time being, so read on for more sillyness…
