I took a trip home and down memory lane over christmas. It hadn’t quite dawned on me just how much stuff I’ve made over the years, but looking back through everything it was plainly obvious that still life and figure drawing is what fascinated me before I got into animation. I thought it would be nice to share these three drawings and what they mean to me.
Had some good news today – 3 of my etchings have been accepted into the New Visions exhibition at the Grant Bradley Gallery opening on Sat Jan 7th 2012 through to the end of the month. This is the first time original DMCropley artwork has gone on sale to the public – hoping for the best! :D
Now that Life Class is over until January next year its time to dig back through the archives and post up classic images from years past. Enjoy…
Back to the reason I why I very first started this blog! Scanning and archiving the mahoosive pile of sketchbooks produced from Life Class over the years.

Looking forward to getting back into the print studio again and starting the new term of life classes. The art thing has had to take a bit of a back seat recently but its good to start the old ball rolling again. Click the thumbs below for full size images…
7 Ace people will be getting original DMCropley prints as a big thank you for helping out with our wedding at the weekend. Here’s some photos of the Fine Art Christmas present wrapping at Spike Print tonight… :D Each one is an un-editioned artists proof so they’re properly unique, lets hope they go down well…

I’ve just recently updated all of my films to Hi-res versions on the youtubes so I thought I’d post up my last showreel from when I was a freelance flash animator as fishboyfilms in early 2008. I wanted to do something a little different so I edited AC/DC’s ‘back in black’ down to a minute and a half and cut a rock video! Still raises a smile every time I watch it – good times :D
I’ve just been uploading HD versions of my films to my youtube channel and I chanced across this short I’d been working on a few years ago to test out my ‘squidgy blobs’ so I thought I’d post it up. Its early work in progress, but may be interesting to see how I put together a simple flash animation. Its a bit difficult to work out whats going on as I turned off the animatic layer to make it less distracting, but the gag is – bird tries to pull out peanut from feeder, eventually gets one, tosses it into the air but the entire contents of the feeder spill out into its awaiting mouth. Hilarity ensues.
Now the sun is shining I decided to take advantage of the natural light and take some photos of some of my most successful prints. I’ve also started work on another edition of original inkings which I will post next week. Its getting very close to my wedding now so I won’t be posting much for the next month or so. I’ve very much caught the art bug again and it doesn’t look like its going to go away this time.
Just picked up last weeks prints from the print shop. Absolutely smashed it on a couple of these. Very happy indeed with the progress. Unfortunately now I’ve got a long break before I can get back in the studio so gotta hope that the ole mojo sticks around. Check em out…
Thats another limited edition of original inkings sorted. 10 copies, 1 wedding gift and 1 artists’ proof (A/P) for me. Very much enjoying inking these pics. Its quite a challenge as for some reason I’ve taken to using a broken dip-pen nib which makes it all the more satisfying completing a finished picture. I don’t think anyone other than me will notice any difference, but it just stops everything looking that little bit too slick. It forces mistakes and that makes it interesting! (masochist…)
