Enjoyed tonights session, even though I was knackered. You can usually never tell how its going to turn out while you’re in the middle of drawing ( I can’t anyway… too self-critical) but there’s definitely one pic that hits the spot for me out of this batch. Can you guess which one it is? :D

Starting to get a backlog of etched plates now – which is great, but need to get down the print shop and start pulling proofs. Cutting Mat has arrived, now just need mount card, sticky labels designed and project Dave Sells Art is go :D

Back to school… Will’s Life Drawing class began again tonight at Bristol Grammar School so I get to break out the pencil crayons for another term. It always takes a while to get back in to the swing of things, working out the rusty hinges and all. Had a lot of fun spending the 2nd half of the session etching a single plate taking in four different poses. Looking forward to proofing this now I’ve had a bit more practise at the print process over summer. I’ve photoshopped out a rough test of what the prints should pull like, but you never can tell until you get your hands dirty down the studio.

Interesting session tonight, very rusty after a couple of weeks away, but I remembered my learnings from last time and had a good warm up for 1/2 hour in the sketchbook with 5 min poses before diving in to the etchings. Seems like this is a good way to approach the 2 hour sessions – you get half a dozen warm up sketches and around 4 plates, more than enough to keep stocks up for print runs. This was also the last session of the term, so no more new drawings until the end of April – lots of time for playing with print!

Etch-stravaganza! Tonight I tried drypoint etching for the entire 2 hour session, in retrospect I should have spent some time warming up in the sketchbook first instead rushing headlong into the main course, but in for a penny in for a pound. I’ve scanned the plates and also uploaded photoshopped mockups of what the prints may look like, but in the real world It’ll be weeks before I get to see what the prints from this session will look like – kinda exciting! Anyways, here’s what came out of tonight – I tried to cram in as many styles as I could from quick sketches to multi-pose stuff. For some reason the last one wouldn’t scan properly so I’ve just left it as is…

Good session tonight. All 5 minute poses, so there’s quite a volume of images. Had fun mashing together different poses to make new odd looking images…

That was the last session for this term, but I’ll be scanning and uploading classic life drawing every Thursday from sketchbooks past! Its going to be ‘fun’ (read: embarrassing) posting up some of the drawings from a few years ago when I was going through… lets call it a ‘phase’ of drawing very silly things. I’m sure you’ll get what I mean when I post them up. Gulp. As ever, to view the drawings in full screen, click a thumbnail and navigate left/right using the arrows at top and bottom of the screen. Enjoy!

Interesting… I went into tonights session with an agenda in mind – draw the most stupid, silly drawings I could muster. Turns out that going into a session with an agenda doesn’t work! Ended up with some straight, some a bit weird, some I’m happy with and some not… take a look:
