Opening of New Visions Exhibition at the Grant Bradley Gallery

Thought I’d post a couple of snaps from the Private View of the New Visions Exhibition at the Grant Bradley Gallery where I’m exhibiting three of my etchings. The event was opened by the Lord Mayor of Bristol and featured 40+ new and existing artists.

It was a good turn out for a Friday evening and a great buzz about the place – I do like the GBG. I was a little disappointed that my pieces weren’t hung together as they work as a triptych, but small matter – at least I have work on show to the general public, and that’s what counts! :D

Entries to New Visions Exhibition at The Grant Bradley Gallery

Three entries into the New Visions exhibiton at the Grant Bradley Gallery. Check. Didn’t manage to get the prints framed before the Xmas full stop, so my own personal stash has gone in to the exhibition and my walls are looking pretty bare… but artwork in. Job done.

First Print Commission and Testimonial

The prints I made as wedding gifts a few months ago turned out not only to be a run-away success but have also led to my first commission, which is fantastic news all round. I received a really lovely letter asking for a companion piece to one of the prints which also included what I believe to be an absolutely spot on write up of myself and my work:

“The draftsmanship is striking but there are elements of grotesquerie and darkness which seem at odds with the light heartedness he projects on an initial meeting. I’m neither critic nor connoisseur, but his images are haunting and have stayed with me”

Martin Maurice, Manhatten, NYC.

Below is the piece which provoked this response,  seen here as it was presented.

I’m very much looking forward to finding the right print to complement this image, but because of the nature of my work, I never know what’s going to come off the point of my etching tool so I can but wait until the right image happens…

Nelson Street Art Gallery, Bristol 18-08-11

Had a wander down to the new Nelson Street art gallery currently in the making this afternoon. I love the fact this drab cement nightmare of a road is being turned into a Stokes Croft-esque street art bonanza. Big-ups to all the crews working hard in shitty weather…

Can’t wait to see the street once all the graft is finished. Click thumbs for full size images…
